Recognized internationally as the leading producer of smallpox vaccines, Acambis is developing a second-generation smallpox vaccine that is currently undergoing clinical trials. We are establishing a travel vaccines franchise through our US-based subsidiary Berna Products Corporation, which markets Vivotif®, the world's only licensed oral typhoid vaccine, in North America. Acambis has a number of other potential travel vaccines in development and is conducting clinical trials of vaccines against yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis and dengue fever.

We are currently recruiting for a process engineer for our Canton facility. This role will complete the design and implementation of chemical process, instrumentation and equipment. This engineer will provide expertise in cell culture, filling, lyophilization, engineering, design and process and/or scale-up.
Specific Job Responsibilities to Include:
Perform conceptual analysis of new project proposals; feasibility analysis, scope of work, basis of design, project schedule, budgetary estimate, facility utilization, risk analysis and implementation plan.
Develop documentation to support new equipment implementation (User requirement specifications, Detail design specification, Operating and Maintenance procedures, FAT, SAT and commissioning documents).
Perform extensive analysis, commissioning, functional testing and start-up for autoclaves, depyrogenation oven, filling machine, lyophilizer, capping, inspection, labeling, transfer conveyors, isolators and VHP generation.
Perform extensive analysis, commissioning, functional testing and start-up for bioreactors, fermenters, chromatography, TFF, filters, autoclaves, CIP and SIP systems.
Performs extensive analysis and commissioning functions in computerized systems and utilities which involve HVAC, RODI, WFI, Clean Steam and gases.
Provide engineering studies, technical support, training and leadership to manufacturing, QA, validation and other departments for process improvement, troubleshooting, change control and deviation resolution.
Provides process flow diagrams (PFD), Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID), and process descriptions for projects and for the technology transfer of products from PD to manufacturing.
Assists the manufacturing operation in problem solving with regards to equipment and systems.
Conducts research/ literature searches of current manufacturing processes and processing equipment.
Establishes operating equipment specifications and improves manufacturing techniques.
